Cosmetics
Cosmetics have been used for as long as people have been. Face painting in the Old Testament Ancient Egyptians used eye shadow, scented oils and ointments to clean soften skin, dyes to colour the body & hair over 10,000 years ago. During Roman times, "Cosmetae" slaves bathed men and women in perfumed waters. Romans used henna on lips, cheeks, & nails. Antimony, burnt almonds, lead, oxidized copper, were used as eyeliner In ancient China, all baths, clothing, homes and temples were all richly scented. The Japanese turned the use of incense and scent making into an art-form. Medieval Europe had white lead based cosmetics and later scented powders for hair & body. Modern Cosmetics began in Hollywood USA with the birth of film and visual arts and has grown with increased cleanliness & people seeking to emulate their on screen idols.
