Irish whiskey is believed to be one of the earliest distilled beverages in Europe, dating to the mid-12th century The Old Bushmills Distillery lays claim to being the oldest licenced distillery in the world since gaining a licence from James I in 1608. The distillation of Irish Whiskey has a long history, no one knows for sure when it first began some sources place it as early as the 6th Century when travelling monks on their return to Ireland brought with them the knowledge of distillation. Irish Whiskey named in the Irish language Fuisce or Uisce beatha is a whiskey made on the island of Ireland manily in Eire. There are several types of whiskey common to Ireland: Single Malt, Single Grain, Pure Pot Still and Blended Whiskey. American Whiskey came to the USA with Irish and Scottish immigrants as early as the 1600s. American whiskey has developed bearing little if no characters of the original Scottish-Irish whiskies American whiskey have a fuller, stronger sweeter taste. American whiskey has six genre; Bourbon, Tennessee, Rye, Wheat, Corn and Blended whiskey. The flavours develop with differences in type and amount of grain used during the mashing. Bourbon often from Kentucky may be produced in any state in the union and contain 51 percent corn, stored thereafter for two years in new, charred oak barrels. Best known of the Bourbon brands is probably Jim Beam Tennessee whiskey is closely related to Bourbon but must be in Tennessee. This whiskey is always filtered through sugar-maple charcoal. One of the best known Tennessee whiskies is Jack Daniel’s Rye whisky is bottled as Straight Rye Whisky This spirit is at least 51 percent rye, distilled at less than 80 percent and stored in new, charred oak barrels for two years. Rye whiskey is slightly more powerful and bitter than Bourbon. The best known Rye Whiskey is probably Wild Turkey. Canadian whisky made in Canada; aged at least three years in small wooden barrels. Most Canadian whiskies are blended multi-grain whiskies and are usually lighter and smoother than other Whiskey. Welsh Whisky. Penderyn Distillery is the only distillery in Wales and one of the smallest distilleries in the world. The Whisky is distinct delightful and with complex tones, flavours and notes running through each mouthful
