Home > WHISKY, Whiskey & Whiskies > Whisky Whiskey Liqueurs Whisky Liqueurs are a combination of aged scotch whiskies, heather honey and a recipe of secret ingredients, a liqueur is a sweet alcoholic beverage, often flavoured with fruits, herbs, spices, flowers, seeds, roots, plants, barks, and cream. The word liqueur derives in Latin liquifacere "to dissolve." referring to flavourings dissolved to make the liqueur. Liqueurs date back to early history being historical descendants of herbal medicines, prepared by monks, such as Benedictine. Today liqueurs made worldwide are enjoyed in different ways, poured over ice, with coffee, or cream or other mixers to create cocktails. The difference between liqueur and a spirit is that liqueurs are an infusion and not just a flavoured whisky. Much skill, experience and care are used in making a Whisky Liqueur. A drink to be savoured however the use of Whisky liqueurs in cocktails is a much growing trend and probably one of the best produced cocktail using a whisky liqueur is the Rusty Nail. The word Liquor is an American corruption of the original Liqueur as used in England and most of Europe.
