Today ethically we get our exotic flowers from fairtrade sources in the tropics or from cultivated versions grown under glass in Europe. Tropical flowers often display strong colours and little scent as the propergation is manly by Bees, Insects of Birds attracted by the colours rather than pollens distributed on the wind. Usually tall and large tropical flower dominate the arrangements made and are often heavy, so you need a large and very heavy vase and a lot of room for display.
