Maker,s Mark is the only bourbon distillery to use pure, iron-free limestone spring water acquired direct from the source which is a 10-acre limestone spring-fed lake within the distillery. This smooth delightful, intricate whisky is darker than most Scottish malts. The flavours are packed with toffee and vanilla flavours, exacerbated by the use of charred new oak barrels during maturation ready for you to enjoy. The red wax seal on the bottle is like a an old fashioned wax seal and each one is different as each bottle has been hand dipped to seal the bottle in a practise going back for a quarter century. It is great to see and hear of a company such as Maker,s Mark where people, not machines control the quality of the product. Unlike most bourbons, Maker,s Mark is not aged for any specific period but rather it is bottled and marketed when expert tasters agree that it is ready. Maker,s Mark is one of the few distillers to rotate the barrels during the ageing process throughout the warehouse allowing the benefit from the different temperatures to play their part in maturation.
